As well as the usual shows and amusements a number of special events take place during the illuminations, such as fireworks displays which have proved extremely popular in recent years with both residents and visitors to the resort.  The World Fireworks Championships have brought leading pyrotechnic specialists from different countries to Blackpool and have provided spectacular displays.  Volleyball, ride the lights and the parade of the Honda Goldwings have all been hugely successful
